Chris Cornell will be playing Download 2009

Twelve more bands have been announced for Download Festival UK 2009.  Former Soundgarden and Audioslave lead vocalist Chris Cornell will be playing, as will be rock giants Journey!

Chris Cornell will be playing his solo meterial and the appearance follows the recent release of his 3rd solo album, Scream, last week.

I’ve not heard Scream yet, but rest assured, I’ll be reviewing it soon.  His first solo album, Euphoria Morning is a work of genius, but sadly his 2nd effort, Carry On, didn’t hit the same heights.

Incidentally, if you haven’t heard Euphoria Morning, get yourself onto Spotify and check it out.  Superb stuff.

Chris Cornell has stated to the press that a Soundgarden reunion is unlikely to ever happen, and that the various former members of the band had put a lid on their Soundgarden days.  Ah well.  Another great band I’ll never get a chance to see live.

Skin as they were in the mid 90's

UK rockers Skin will be appearing, making their first live appearance since 1998!  Once upon a time, almost every gig I went to, Skin seemed to be supporting, but alas they disbanded during the decline in popularity of rock in the late 90′s.  Is this the beginning of the second era of Skin?  Who knows, but if you’re into 80′s/90′s rock with some proper guitar solos and you happen to be going to Download, check them out!

Also added to the bill are Down, Lacuna Coil, Tesla, Papa Roach, Clutch, Black Stone Cherry, Architects, Parkway Drive and Karma To Burn.

The lineup so far (in no particular order) :

Come and have your say!

You heard it here first, or maybe you didn’t, but Mike Patton is back with a newly reformed Faith No More who have been confirmed as a headliner of the 2009 Download Festival (UK).

The annoucement has come from out of nowhere and follows the epic news of the reformation of Faith No More, lineup circa Album Of The Year,  for a European tour.

Faith No More - touring Europe this year!

Faith No More - touring Europe this year!

This means no Jim Martin, older FNM fans may be unhappy to hear, guitar duties being handled by Jon Hudson.

In 1998 we thought “everything’s ruined” when evidence of the breakup of this seminal band emerged, and after digging the grave, saying “ashes to ashes” and drinking a last cup of sorrow for this once-great act over a decade ago, they’ve come back to get us on the ricochet and this is the real thing.

Personally, I’m falling to piece over this news, so I take this bottle and toast the band that brought us these classic albums…

  • 1985: We Care a Lot
  • 1987: Introduce Yourself
  • 1989: The Real Thing
  • 1992: Angel Dust
  • 1995: King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime
  • 1997: Album of the Year
  • It’d take woodpeckers from mars to keep me away from this gig.

The other headliners are Slipknot and Def Leppard.

We care a lot at the RMF and have our fingers on the pulse of the music-loving world, and so for all those budding guitarists, pianists and other musicians out there that are looking for the chords and lyrics to Faith No More’s cover of the Lionel Ritchie classic, “Easy” – here you go…

For ease of playing, I’ve transcribed it in G, whereas the recorded version is in G#, so if you want to use these chords to play along to the record, you’ll have to tune your guitar up a  half-step.

    Verse:

    G                                  Bm                                Am                        D
You know it sounds funny but I just can’t stand the pain…

    G          Bm                          Am      DDDDD…
    Girl I’m leavin’ you tomorrow….

     G              Bm                                              Am             D
Seems to me, girl, you know I’ve done all I can…

    G                Bm                       Am                  D
You see, I beg, stole and I borrowed, yeah

    Chorus:

                            G        Bm      Am
    It’s why I’m easy

          D                            G      Bm     Am     D
    I’m easy like Sunday morning

                           G     Bm     Am    D
    It’s why I’m easy

                                    F     C   DD G    (bass part: F, E, DD, G)
    Easy like Sunday morning

    Bridge:
                         F      Em      D
I wanna be high, so high

                         F                                               Em     D
I wanna be free to know the things I do are right

                         F        Em   D
I wanna be free, just me

          Bb    F     Bb    C
    Oh babe

(guitar solo: same chords as verse)
    (repeat chorus)

    End on the G

Now don’t say we never give you anything. :)
