This January come and join Soundcrash in Camden’s glorious noise-cavern called KOKO for a Ska and Reggae Winter feast, with more than 30 years of the finest musical heritage represented by a whole host of movers, shakers and legends!
2-tone legends The Selecter celebrated the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut album ‘Too Much Pressure’ this February and are deservedly regaining their place at the top of the Ska revival pile. Known for their jumping up-beat tunes, driven by founder guitarist and vocalist Neol Davies, The Selecter have enjoyed prolonged fame thanks mainly to the continuing interest in Ska music from generation to generation, and such classics in their catalogue as ‘On My Radio’ and ‘Too Much Pressure’. Join us in a celebration of this musical institution in their biggest London show in years, in which The Selecter will be playing classics as well as some EXCLUSIVE previews of new material.
http://www.theselecter.comLondon-based cool cats Ska Cubano formed in 2001 when singer Natty Bo visited Cuba with the idea of ‘creating an alternative history in which Cuban Ska had emerged’; combining the irresistible Ska half-step with ultra-cool Cuban chords and croons was never likely to fail! The current formation combines musicians from both Cuba and Jamaica, as well as Japan, Monserrat and London, including 3 members of Top Cats. Since then Ska Cubano have toured the world, played at festivals including WOMAD and Glastonbury, and their third album, ‘Mambo Ska’ released earlier this year, has received international acclaim, described as “A blast – a raucous, riotous, irresistible blast…high octane party and festival music of the first order” and has led to them repeatedly selling out the Jazz Cafe.
